Amazon Plans Delivery Station, 2,000 Jobs in Spokane Area
Online retailer to occupy 323,000-square-foot facility near Airway Heights
Amazon plans to open a 323,000-square-foot Airway Heights delivery station this year, the company announced Thursday.
The announcement comes as Amazon continues to expand its operations in the Spokane area. In 2020, the company opened a 1 million-square-foot fulfillment center in Spokane Valley, creating 1,000 jobs.
The new Airway Heights station will receive packages from the West Plains and sort them for delivery to customers in Spokane and surrounding areas. Amazon said it plans to hire more than 2,000 people to work at the new facility.
“We’re excited to continue investing in the Spokane area and creating jobs for local residents,” said Amazon spokesperson Brie Katz. “This new delivery station will help us meet the growing demand for our services in the region.”
Amazon’s expansion in Spokane has been met with mixed reviews. Some residents have welcomed the new jobs and investment, while others have expressed concerns about increased traffic and pollution.
The Spokane City Council recently approved a resolution calling on Amazon to study the environmental impacts of its new fulfillment center.
